My practice and study of yoga began in 1990 with Living Yoga teacher, Ernest Coates. Living Yoga is based on Sivananda principles balanced between postures, breathing, concentration, meditation and relaxation. After three years as Ernest’s class assistant, I became a Living Yoga teacher in my own right, continuing classes with my teacher as well as following the FRYOG teacher training course.

I have always been drawn to Sivananda teachings with its concentration on preserving and communicating authentic classical yoga in the west. Setting up Yoga Life in London, I was also able to develop my own teaching techniques and class content; and find a particular focus in how yoga could best benefit busy urban living.

I moved my family to Manchester while working as an architect to rebuild the city centre after the 1996 IRA bomb. Still a professional architect and artist, yoga changed my life and continues to influence how I live and work.

This year I was privileged to live a month at the International Sivananda Yoga Vendenta Centre where I undertook Gurukula training under Swami’s Krishnadevananda and Kaliasananda; and completing my training as Sivananda Yoga Siromani.
