My interest in Pilates started over ten years ago while studying contemporary
dance in the United States. During my dance training Pilates helped
rehabilitate my injuries and give me a level of fitness that dance alone
could not achieve. So taken with it's results and principles, I was
inspired to do a mat-work teaching training course in Atlanta, Georgia,
in 2004, with Power Pilates. Over the course of several years I juggled
a professional career while dancing and teaching Pilates part-time.
My passion for teaching and learning eventually took-over and I decided
to take a leap across the pond to expand my education. Keeping dance
close to my heart, I chose to enroll in the Pilates teaching training
course at Laban, a contemporary dance school in southeast London.
The training I received at Laban was comprehensive- taking a more somatic
approach to Pilates with the use equipment and supplemented by various
bodywork techniques and movement anylasis such as Alexander Technique,
Feldenkrais and Bartenieff fundamentals. My teaching style aims to incorporate
everyone of all ages and fitness levels by creating an open environment
where anything is possible through modifications, body awareness and
a positive outlook.
